A lot has been going around. The problem is real, but I feel the efforts are misguided- It has happened before and is happening now.

Climate change is no one’s problem, while it’s everyone’s. Climate change movement is the new world religion (link)

Any International Cooperation Is Well-Intended, But Bound To Fail

The prisoner’s dilemma is a fundamental problem [in game theory that demonstrates] why two people might not cooperate even if it is in both their best interests to do so. (link)

My humble submission is that leaders of all countries, big and small are all answerable to their folks back home. And it won’t help if they bring back a raw deal while the rest of the world makes do with empty speeches.

Thus not much should be expected from these international events except thee important thing that they do make lots of right noises.

Copenhagen Summit 2009

As long as the alpha male USA does something concrete at such events, they’ll remain a sham. And USA absolutely no incentive to be the leader here.
Such events should be organized, for they do hog the news and more and more people think how their individual actions can help in delaying the Judgment Day.

After handing almost every Indian with a mobile phone with its revolutionary Rupees 501/- scheme years ago, Reliance does it again.

This time with its bold offer of all calls (landline and mobile), local and STD at 50 Paise per minute- without any bonus cards or monthly rentals, and the tariff valid for lifetime. Lifetime in telecom circles means at least till 2021, and that’s a long time.

Even if one is not on Reliance, the other companies are already feeling the heat and have come out with unbelievable offers.

All I can say is thank you Reliance.

At times, the customer care number of mobile phones try to move the caller around in circles- press this no. to get here, press that no. to go there- which can be frustrating.

I’ve found a simple tip to get to an executive in under 20 seconds and believe me this has worked every time, for me and all my friends having prepaid numbers.

How?

 Call the customer care number.

In the main menu, there’ll be an option PREPAID TO POSTPAID.

Whatever your query, press the number corresponding to this option..
You’ll get to a person immediately, guaranteed.

Have fun and don’t forget to share this tip with your friends :)

Almost all of Punjab, and other areas of North India are experiencing power cuts on daily basis. Most of us have already adjusted our routine around those cuts. Those among us who can afford have installed generators at their place, but that’s not the solution for the rest of us.

Since power is in short supply, and even inverters fail unless given time to charge, the need for uninterrupted power cannot be negated.

Can we think of regulating the number of units to each household, and in turn provide 24×7 power, or at least drastically reduce the duration of outage?

Also, would be scrapping free power to any sector, and specifically farmers needs to be in order, but since that jeopardises the vote bank, I think this will be difficult.

Moreover, how about subsidizing CFLs- they consume less power, waste less in form of heat, have pleasant white color- but are expensive initially. This is an easy to implement step and won’t rock any electoral boat. Any more suggestions…

There’s a small path that deviates from the main track of the zoo, and here there is a clear marker that says in red “NO ENTRY”.

The gate is not locked and many people are going through as if it’s the normal path.

Guess what? Most of the crowd is going through to see what’s on the other side of “NO ENTRY” gate. And those who didn’t decide on walking so much, couldn’t help but turn heads and asking those who were returning.

And when some thinking person mentions the sign, people would say that since others are also going, so there must be something worthwhile (not thinking individually, but following the herd) and thus keep up the momentum of new visitors taking the place of old ones.

Last evening, family and I decided to watch Hashar on Punjabi channel MH1. Guys, the movie began on 7:30 and ended at…, guess 12:05.

Can you tolerate this?
After about half an hour of uninterrupted movie, they would give about twenty minutes of advertisements- in which world is MH1 living- these days, it is difficult to hold on to viewer interest even for a few minutes.

And are advertisers foolish enough to post ads in such a long slot?

Next time, we would arrange for a DVD and watch the movie rather than on MH1.

P.S.: The movie was a good watch especially the campus, hostel of Panjab Uni, to which most of the youth can relate to.
